"Sun"? "Building a ship" to "Moon"? ...she couldn't wrap her little mind around the King's description of the moon in the "sky" replacing whatever "Sun" was. Did it roll to replace it? The imaginary sound of it barreling over even more rock made the fishy giggle! What a strange and silly concept!

It was until Asgore compared it to something she was familiar with -- the Wishing Room. The powdery snow in, well, Snowdin. Undyne's eyes sparkled at the mere mention of it. They had that stuff up there, too...!

Comprehensible or not, it must REALLY be worth fighting for if King Asgore was striving to have Monsterkind esacape and take back the surface!

For a moment, the thought of bloodthirsty humans existing up there disappeared in Undyne's mind. All there was was wonder. "I can't WAIT for you to show us all around!!" she said, looking up at the King with the sharpest and toothiest of grins.

From @scrappy-urchin​: Undyne squinted, staring directly at the sunlight peaking from the cracks of the castle’s ceiling, certainly treading on a bunch of yellow flowers in the process. It was so… warm. Not like the sweltering heat in Hotland. It was pleasant. Soft. It made King Asgore’s flowers grow so healthily.

“Woooowww…” she exhaled contently. This light is on the surface everyday?? She finally cupped her hands above her eyes. Even a tough girl like Undyne couldn’t handle looking directly at the bright, natural light for too long. She turns to Asgore. “The surface must be REALLY cool! What’s up there??”

Asgore looked away for a moment, daring not to say anything. It would be easy to talk about the negatives: the cruelty of humans, empty space filled with dust and bodies as the rain pattered on the mud… But no. She was just a child and not just any child. He mentally shook his head and a warm smile came unto him instead as he knelt down, not commenting on the flowers and placed a gentle hand on her shoulder. 

“The surface sure is an adventure. There is the sun, the light coming in now! It helps grow flowers but as well lets people know when to wake up. The night is when it gets dark, it changes up there and the moon comes out. It’s a rock but further above the surface separated by the sky. It’s similar to the ceiling of the cave but you can build a ship to go up there. The stars are similar to the wishing room. As far as you can see the sky has nothing but stars.” 

If Asgore had to be honest, he loved the day more than night. Even when he used to be on the surface, maybe it was because flowers liked the sun or maybe it was the warmth that comforted him? 

“The day has no stars though, but it has a lot. The sun, clouds that are actually small bits of water! It can rain there sometimes but it happens and stops… You also have seasons. Things change a lot up there. For example it is very easy to grow flowers in the spring and summer because it’s warm and cozy but in the winter it gets cold, like Snowdin, so the flowers go to sleep. From the temperature inside here, I’d say it’s Spring now. But I’m rambling. You probably want to hear about other things, don’t you?”

"Mmmpppphhhh----“ Undyne gives a throaty groan, a mouthful of mushy velvet mantle stuffed in her maw. She struggles like a fish flopping in a net. The cloth has seen better days -- the thing will have claw tears and bite marks once the fish monster gets unraveled from it!

Hands flail in front of her to grab something -- anything! -- to pull her out of this mess. The tips of her fingers find the fringe of some armor plate on Asgore’s back.

...there!

With as much force she can muster, she pulls herself up. The power of that movement shoots Undyne out of the “trap” and into the air. With a heavy PLONK, she lands onto the king’s padded shoulders -- not with enough power to falter a mountain of a man like Asgore, but with the same weight as two sandbags dropping onto his shoulders. She has, indeed, been experiencing a long-overdue growth spurt!

The fishy takes her trainer’s faux question at face value. “HEY. You know what it is by now!” Her legs swing to emphasize her words, heels tapping against the tops of Asgore’s chest plate.

Gerson, formerly known as the Hammer of Justice:

A good-natured elderly monster who’s a veteran of the War of Humans and Monsters, former Captain of the Royal Guard, and Undyne’s childhood idol. He took the spunky young fish monster’s attempts at ‘helping’ him beat up bad guys with humor. In the main verse, he’s more of a kooky uncle to Undyne than a mentor who’s not afraid to put her in check if her antics go too far.

King Asgore Dreemurr, King of All Monsters:

Asgore silently suffers from depression by the loss of his two children, the deadly choice he made that lead to the dissolution of his marriage, and the blood on his hands from murdering humans for their SOULs. But as a young girl, Undyne was swept up by the glorious image of the Monster King becoming a god and freeing his people from their underground prison. After Asgore accepted Undyne as his trainee, he became impressed by the young monster’s strength and persistence. His relationship developed into something of a father figure to the orphaned fish.

In the main verse, Asgore becomes concerned with the increasingly irrational choices Undyne makes. She defies his attempts to help her, thinking it was an affront to her abilities and a sign of his lack of confidence in her. Since then, Undyne alternates between living in Waterfall and Asgore’s castle.

Both Undyne’s biological parents survive in this AU. They moved to Hometown recently, due to Pop’s job location change.

“Pops” (below) is a police officer. He’s spirited, aggressively helpful, and can be seen driving around town in what his daughter calls “the most badass motorcycle EVER!!!” Undyne wants to follow his footsteps in her future career.

Fun fact: that isn’t hair on his head. It’s a flat red fin that flares out when he’s underwater.

“Dad” (above) is an owner of a start-up local hardware store. The most mild-mannered of the family and foil to his husband’s energy... until you bring up his life’s biggest passion: DIY projects and repairs! He prides himself for making all the furniture in his family’s new home.

Fun fact: He befriends Asgore as a fellow business owner.

Drulah is Undyne’s kid brother. Being born deaf, he has limited speaking abilities and instead uses sign language to express himself. He attends Ms. Toriel’s class with extra assistance. Much to his big sister’s chagrin, he throws a tantrum whenever he feels like he’s being misunderstood or ignored.
